Ski Helmet

Once you have Nordic skates and boots, your most important gear item is a ski helmet. If you wear a helmet to ski and bike, why not wear one on the ice? Ice is harder than snow, and arguably as hard as pavement. The consequences of falling and hitting your head on the ice are too serious to ignore. That’s why helmets are mandatory on most Nordic ice skating tours.
If you don’t have a ski helmet, then at least wear a bike helmet or a hockey helmet. The advantages of a ski helmet are (a) it gives you more coverage, especially in the rear, and (b) it’s insulated to keep your head warm in frigid temperatures.
See you on the ice - in a helmet.
