Moore Reservoir

Straddling the Vermont - New Hampshire border, Moore Reservoir has become one of the most dependable venues for safe ice. As reliable snow cover retreats northward but subfreezing nights linger, we’re finding more and more skateable ice at Moore. Important to note is that Moore is a hydroelectric reservoir, so water levels fluctuate during periodic drawdowns for power generation, and sometimes a plank is required to cross fractured, unsafe ice along the shore and access the safe ice further out. The best parking and ice access are at the Dodge Hill Boat Launch and the Moore Dam Picnic Area.

Comerford Reservoir

Monroe, NH and Waterford, VT

1029 acres
No depth data

Comerford is a hydroelectric reservoir and Moore’s junior partner, as it is located just downstream. Recommended launch spot is Pine Grove Boat Launch on the north (Vermont) shore. The wide area near Comerford Dam generally has less current and safer ice than the narrow sections further upstream, which are affected by the warm water produced by power generation at Moore Dam.
